How are people affected if honeybees don't pollinate? __ Take Notes Paraphrase the central idea of the source and give examples of supporting details. 8 Beekeepers researchers, and farmers want to know why millions of honeybees have disappeared since 2006. The bees left no clues. 9 Many states have spotted big problems with local bee colonies. A colony is a large group of bees that live and work together. Entire bee hives suddenly disappeared. This has caused a decrease in honey production across the nation. 10 Honeybees are hardworking insects . Not only do they make honey but they also help flowering plants grow. Bees move grains of pollen from one part of a flower to another, so a plant can grow seeds and fruit. This process is called pollination. Fruits and vegetables can't grow unless they're pollinated. Honeybees, birds,, bats, and other insects are among nature's most important pollinators. 11 Honeybees pollinate about one third of the crops in the world. If honeybees don't pollinate, many crops won't produce fruit and seeds. Bees don't always show up on farms where crops are grown . Consequently farmers rent colonies of bees to make sure their crops are pollinated . Beekeepers let the bees out to pollinate the crops. Then the bees return to their boxes, and they are moved to the next farm. 12 Experts meet to try to solve the mystery of the missing bees. A disease could be killing the bees. Hot,dry weather could be a cause. No one knows for sure, but many people are trying to help the bees survive. WHERE ARE THE BEES?
